YAL-1A ABL Laser Fired
Posted By Erwin Rommel On March 16, 2009
The airborne laser program is currently being developed by Boeing Missile Defense Systems, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman and has recently reached some major steps forward by firing it’s high energy laser for the first time.
The tests took place at Edwards airforce base, California on November 24, 2008 and although it was a ground test, the lasers were fired from a turret installed in the nose of a highly modded Boeing 747-400F and operated by a crew from within the YAL-1. We’ll keep you posted on any further updates, but this program is hitting some major milestones which takes it a huge step towards completion.
